Transcoding is the process of converting a video file from one encoding format to another in order to increase the number of compatible target devices a media file can be played on. As an example, a 4K 60 fps video captured on a GoPro might not be usable on all mobile phones. Transcoding will allow MLS to send the stream in the relevant and supported formats to be used on all devices.
