Key concepts on this page: Events
Live streams need one crucial part to be successful… a video to stream to the user. Most commonly, this would be via a camera recording the event, and then streaming that video feed to the user. But with MCLS, you can also upload a recording and stream that live, for example, with pre-recorded events.
This page will guide you through the steps of creating an event, uploading a video and displaying the stream on a test page.
Requirements for this guide:
An active MCLS account
A test video file to upload
Access to your website where you can paste and view your JavaScript embed code. If you do not have access to a test page, you can temporarily use https://codepen.io/pen/ to view your stream. To use CodePen, paste the embed code into the HTML block and wait for the preview to render.
Log in to the console with your account.
Go to the Events section.
Click on "Create event".
Fill in the required form fields.
Ensure the "Create a stream for this event" toggle is ON, and select “File Upload“ as the stream type. Use the default stream configuration that came with your account.
Click “Choose file” and select the video file you want to use for the stream. Then, click Upload.
Your file will now upload. Please don’t leave this page as your progress will be lost.
You will be redirected to the event detail page once the upload process has finished.
To display your video to your users, we have to prepare your video to be supported on various platforms and devices. This process is called transcoding. While we wait for transcoding to complete, let's embed your stream.
Enable the "Publish video" toggle. This will ensure that once the transcoding process is complete, your video will be available in the embedded video player. Note, you control when your users see the video using this toggle.
Copy the "JavaScript Embed Code" and paste it into your website test page. When previewing your test page you will now see a video placeholder with your event title and date.
That was it! Well done on completing your first stream using a video file.
